Arthur Lyman - Mele Kalikimaka
Mele Kalikimaka!
Todays song is a seasonal offering from Hawaiian genius Arthur Lyman.
Lyman's music has a strange effect on me, like going on holiday without having to find the Passports. I often put his albums on when friends come around, I think i am under the illusion this makes me seem 'Worldly Wise'. His albums usually feature his human interpretations of exotic bird calls and of course, his warm, sonorous Vibraphone playing. Not good music for driving or operating heavy machinery! It's a musical snooze button.
Todays song is not typical Arthur Lyman. It goes a bit nuts and makes me want to drink Sunny Delight and run around Toys 'R' Us.

I must go now, i have to take an old TV (Telly not Tranny) to the dump, post a letter to America, make 5 Creme Brulees and buy a life size porcelain dog from the charity shop ('Cats Protection Charity Shop' - How ironic, Alanis!) all in one afternoon.
Sunny D?

Spoilt Victorian Child Forum

Hello all,

Sorry there's no proper post from me today as I've been a busy little beaver....

I got to thinking (yeah I know!!!) that there wasn't a really nice forum out there where you can just talk about anything and everything...

Maybe there is, I just haven't found it...

Anyway, so I thought why not do my own.

So I did.

Spoilt Victorian Child - The Forum

I know with these things it could take ages to get up and running properly so please be patient, and if it does fall flat on it's face with no one posting then I can just bin it... no harm in trying though eh?

So please visit and say something, you don't have to register to post or anything (although that would be nice)....

Let me know what you think and if it's a good idea or just another of my hair-brained ideas that can't possibly work...

On another topic entirely...

That wonderous page of great music that goes under the title Bumrocks have a very special guest posting tracks as of Monday...

It's non other than Pablo Clements of The Psychonauts.

I for one am a big fan, especially the stuff they did with Mo-Wax in the earlyish days...

Have to admit to losing track of what they've been up to the last few years, will have to remedy that I think.

Can't wait 'till Monday.

Cheers All.

On The Second Day Of Christmas

Marion Williams - When Was Jesus Born
Not an easy start to life - Born on Christmas day and you've got a girls name!
Who? Alice Cooper thats who. Silly sausage.

Todays Christmas song ask's a question which has puzzled the worlds greatest historians...When was Jesus born?
Marion Williams doesn't allow her song to get bogged down such scholarly debate. She knows the answer to her question and probably many more.
In her prime, she used to run up and down the aisles of her Chicago church whipping the congregation into a frenzy. Wow!
They don't make 'em like that anymore. Accept of course my mate, Daniel Beddingfield. Hows it hanging Dan?

Now, bring me some figgy pudding...

Look Out World... Here Comes John (but not till 2006, so you can relax a little longer).

John Otway And Wild Willy Barrett - D.K. 50/80
I have no idea what this song is about or what the hell he's singing but I love it.
This is quite unlike anything Otway had recorded before or since...
Guitar and electronic fuzz.... yum!
This was released on the dynamic duo's 1980 album "Way And Bar" and also earned an a-side 7" release in the same year.
John Otway was most probably famous for being a one hit wonder with the fantastic "Cor Baby That's Really Free" in 1977 and his legendary performance of "Headbutts" on The Old Grey Whistle Test, incidentally in a vote by BBC viewers for best lyrics "Beware Of The Flowers ('cause I'm sure they're going to get you yeh!)" which was the b-side of Cor Baby was voted No.7 of all time.... finishing higher than Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan.... blimey!
John Otway can no longer call himself a one hit wonder as for his 50th birthday his fan club, fed up with him picking flops for singles for the last 20 odd years picked what they thought would be a hit...
They voted for "Bunsen Burner", and you know what...
It bloody was...
Top 10 and everything.
If you've never seen John live, I can highly recommend going and seeing him for a great night out, he and his Ambi-Guitar (pictured above) are currently doing a greatest hits tour of the UK...
As for the rest of the world, you'll have to wait till his first ever world tour in 2006....
Check this out... 2006 World Tour.
For an esimated price of £2500 to £3000 you can get to travel round the world in a chartered plane with John and crew...
Someone want to lend me 3 grand???
Please...

Buy - John Otway - Greatest Hits
Visit - John Otway

And Then There Were Four...
I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome Dominic to SVC.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what he adds to this already quite eclectic little corner of the interweb thingy...
Of to a flying start with a bit of Johnny, Cheers Dominic.

On The First Day Of Christmas

Johnny Cash - Little Drummer Boy
Seasons Greetings to all Gods children! This is going to be a daily Christmas Advent Calender with Music. Wow!

Yes as Noddy 'Two pork chops, a throat and a top hat' Holder said, "It's Christmas" - But he said that all year. I once saw some footage of Slade from the mid seventies and they were playing 'Merry Christmas Everybody' to a field of Germans in the summer! If you ask me, the Germans really know how to have a good time. I think they invented Stollen. Have you tried it? I love Stollen. It's cheap in Lidl and Aldi and it's better than Marks & Sparks but Marks & Sparks make better Knitwear and leather belts. In fact my Mum bought a jumper from Lidl's the other day and it stank of petrol! She had to wash it loads. Also, there's never enough people on the tills and I reckon their veg ain't all that - It goes off.

So who's hiding behind door No.1 on the Advent Calender? It's Johnny Cash with "Little Drummer Boy". Everyone likes Johnny Cash, and if you don't think it's Christmas yet, he will convince you. I like the image of Johnny Cash, the Ox and Lamb playing to the baby Jesus. Gold, Frankincense and Cash. Pa rum pum pum pum...
