Olive - You're Not Alone
For a while back there Dance Music was like Man United: everywhere, and so successful it was unseemly. Now I'll admit to being one of those cussed types that supports the underdog, especially if the underdog refuses to tune the guitar properly, but sometimes you have to shut up, listen and watch your prejudices burn away.
This is the one that did it for me. The synth hook is just great, lithe and strange, and the skittering drums don't quite behave (which is exactly how they should behave). Touches of reverb on the vocal keep it oiled and before you know it the shiny beast goes straight though the club door and off into the sky.
I can't imagine anyway to dance to this other than to jump up and down, which is barely dancing at all. Either that or just nod. No, that's what I do to DJ Shadow.
