Mike Seed - Holy Nightmare

Mike Seed - Summer Sleep

Well I went to check the post this morning and lying on the floor was a package...

So I enthusiastically unwrapped it and laid it's contents out on the table, and amongst all the other goodies (Lightening Bolt CD, Jackie O' Mutherfucker tape and a Mini Disc with a couple of tunes for me to work on) that Mike had sent me there it was.... Mike's new album "A Boy Mistaken For A Crow".

So I've been listening to it all morning, and I have to say it hasn't disappointed....

In fact It's bloody brilliant, bit difficult to pick out a couple of tracks, but upon first listening to "Holy Nightmare" by the time it had finished I had already decided it was one of the best songs I've heard... Such simple beauty all wrapped up in a lovely tune.

A Beginners Guide To Mike Seed

Once upon a time Mike Seed was in a band called "Ways of Stephen", and rumour has it that so was a much younger and snottier Spoilt Victorian Child...(still to be confirmed at the time of going to press).

Anyway, they were purveyors of what can only be described as Lo-Fi Psychedelic Country Folk Garage Rock... thereabouts. And recorded many many songs on their trusty old battered Tascam 4 Track.

Ways of Stephen - Captain Quayle

Ways of Stephen - Roll Necks And Rupert Keks

(10 extra special Brownie points to anyone who can tell me who's talking and what film the sample is taken from at the end of Roll Necks!)

Once "Ways of Stephen" (a slight nod to The Butthole Surfers "Hairway To Steven" l.p.) imploded (in a very friendly way of course), Mike didn't rest and soon set about recording many tapes and giving them to friends... this led to him recording his first solo album proper "Passing Trade" which this next song is taken...

Mike Seed - The Road Of The Black Division

His second album was "Rookwood Dreams" which this featured on...

Mike Seed - Putting The Fountain To Sleep

His third album was "Passing Into Mystery"

No track from that but I've got a fantastic version of Leadbelly's Goodnight Irene...

It's Mike's only cover version... but what a good one.

Full of mad electronics and howling....

Mike Seed - Goodnight Irene.
