Someone Like You

Faye Adams - Someone Like You

Faye Adams was called the "little gal with the big voice" and this beautiful song illustrates why.

She started out singing gospel songs with the Tuell Sisters at the age of five then in 1952 aged twenty-seven she joined the Joe Morris Orchestra where she recorded three hit singles that established her name. 'Shake A Hand', 'I'll Be True' and 'Hurts Me To My Heart' (all No. 1 on the R&B chart). Sadly with the dawning of the 'teenager' in the late 50's Adams was seen as old fashioned and returned to the church, abandoning her R&B career forever.

With 'Shake A hand' she was responsible for one of the signature tunes of the R & B era and set the standard for the coming of soul music. Personally I just can't get enough of 'Someone Like You' which even after hundreds of listens still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Just brilliant.
