This is the sound of Southend-on-Sea

These New Puritans - I Want To Be Tracey Emin

Jack Barnett (18), his twin brother George on drums, Sophie (18) keyboards and Tomas 'getting on a bit' at 19 are 'These New Puritans' and with any luck they may well be your new favourite band.

Listening to 'These New Puritans' I'm reminded of a quote by onetime F. Scott Fitzgerald squeeze, Sheila Graham "You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough. You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the World."

So maybe it's their youth, maybe it's their passion, maybe it's the sheets of noise, the scrawny guitar and the barn-door slamming fucking drums. Maybe it's because of the art of it all. Thing is I don't know? But what I do know is that listening to These New Puritans is like listening to an 'inner exuberance'. It's like listening to a punch in the face.

Hey Spoilt Victorian Dad if you're out there, stick this on your ipod, deafen yourself something stupid and do a berserk dance like Emilio Estevez in The Breakfast Club. You won't be able to help it. Bloody Hell These New Puritans weren't even born when John Hughes made The Breakfast Club!
