You've Killed Me Scootah!

The Showstoppers - Ain't Nothing But A House Party

Sorry about the Phil Daniels on the edge of a nervous breakdown Quadrophenia quote, I couldn't resist.

So here we are in the land of Northern Soul. If you're a dedicated collector of Northern 45's, it probably helps to be a millionaire. And if you are, and you spend your days chasing down original copies of things like this, I'd have to say you're a pretty damn cool millionaire. Well done.

The shabby likes of me is more than happy to pick up cheap compilations from the high street. "This Is Northern Soul" volumes 1 and 2 are just silly with greatness. But that's Northern Soul all over, isn't it. You go to the nights and you hear one absolutely blinding track after another and you're lucky if you know four or five of them.

And to make it worse, you get all these people dancing really, really well. Not only does it make you feel ignorant and humbled by all the utter greatness you'll never get to in one lifetime, you're surrounded by people who look good when they dance. It really is too much.

You know what? It doesn't matter. Just play this track at volume. Repeatedly.

And if someone kills your scooter, don't flip like Phil. You'll always have the music.
