Crow, Crows, Crows... I Hate Them.

New Order - Murder

Seems the whole world has gone New Order crazy...
Possibly rightly so after a return to form on the latest album "Waiting For The Siren's Call".
Seeing as though most of the album has been posted elsewhere I thought I'd take you back in time.....

It's 1984, and it's 10 months since Blue Monday had been unleashed on the world, which was followed by the popiness of both the Confusion and Thieves Like Us singles...
Now New order are on a roll, so what do they do....?
They released possibly the darkest and most menacing piece they have recorded, not to mention incredibly non commercial... Murder, which just happens to be one of my favourite and yet generally sadly overlooked singles of theirs.....
It's mainly instrumental apart from the line sampled from Caligula..."Crows, Crows, Crows... I Hate Them!", and some select samples from 2001:A Space Odyssey.... But I love it.
They were back on track and back in the charts after this release with The Perfect Kiss, Sub Culture and so on....
As far as I know Murder is the only New Order single to never chart in the UK... mind you they didn't chart in the US till their 14th single True Faith in 1987, the same year the brilliant Substance singles compilation was released, which is the only place you can find Murder nowadays.

New Order - Isolation (Reading Fest 30.08.98)

New Order - Temptation (New York 18.10.81)

Now for a couple of choice New Order live cuts, the first being the Joy Division classic given a 90's update recorded at the Reading Festival, and the second being a fantastic 10 and a half minute epic recorded at the Ukrainian National Home in New York on their first trip to the US that was sadly delayed by a year and a half by the suicide of Ian Curtis.
The whole gig was released as the Taras Shevchenko video back in the day...
I used to own this, but it pretty much got wore out, then I lent it to someone and never got it back...Mmmmm, but was really glad they packaged it with the afore mentioned Reading gig as the splendid New Order 3 16 DVD.yay!
