Bit of This, Bit of That...

Lee Hazlewood - We All Make The Flowers Grow

This sweet sounding song is about how we're all gonna die anyway but it could be a childrens song by the music alone. What's the deal with Lee Hazlewood... 60's outsider/songwriter/singer/producer/hitmaker? People kinda know who he is but not really. Totally prolific. Still around, in Sweden I think. Aside from writing "These Boots Are Made For Walking", the pretty creepy "Some Velvet Morning" he wrote and recorded so many other great songs. A lot of kind of campy, kinda 60's soundtrack fare.

Lee Hazlewood - She Comes Running

This is exactly the hokey kinda song that only Lee can get away with. And
it's pretty irresistable with that organy thing in the chorus. Love it!

James Mercer - Harvest (Live)

This is a rad acoustic cover by lead Shin, James Mercer. I have to say, after seeing them live several times, this acoustic set is way more lively and compelling than any of the Shins-versions of James Mercer I've seen. The show is for a radio station in Portland and the audience is some of his friends so that may account for the relaxed vibe. I have a real aversion to most things Neil Young but this song is enough to make me want to give him a chance.
