Lick, Lick, Lick And Suck, Suck, Suck....

My Bloody Valentine - Slow

Mmmm, slightly rude song with a beautiful beautiful fuzzy growly bass courtesy of the beautiful beautiful fuzzy growly Debbie Googe.

Forget about your Kim Deal's and Kim Gordon's, Debbie is the one with the bass sound to kill for....

This is taken from 1988's brilliant You Made Me Realise e.p.

After the early indie stylings of their first proper album Ecstacy and a handful of singles the band re-grouped and came up with a sound and style that was to be copied by literally hundreds of bands, akin to the Sex Pistols gig in Manchester all those years before when virtually all the audience formed a band there and then... the same can be said of when people first heard this e.p. and the subsequent l.p.... the stunning Isn't Anything.

And while I'm on the subject of Isn't Anything here's one of the many brilliant tracks from it.

My Bloody Valentine - Feed Me With Your Kiss

This was originally released as the follow up single to You Made Me Realise and came out a month before the album...

What a taster this was.... that was one of the longest months ever waiting for the album I tell you... This is quite a brutal song, mad drumming low down in the mix, massive bass and diving guitars all over the place.... Gorgeous. And there's also that bit at the end where they hammer on a single note one extra time each time round... Must have been a bit of a nightmare keeping count for them when playing live.

And talking of them playing live, I very very sadly never got to see them, but from all accounts they were possibly the loudest band ever, and add to that all the frequencies involved.... people apparently couldn't hear a damn thing for days after.

My Bloody Valentine haven't really released anything properly since 1991's Loveless album, just the odd remix here and there, and the occasional track on compilations.... but they have never officially split up and have been very busy recording other artists in their own studio, most notably Dinosaur Jr.'s brilliant last ever album Hand It Over which various members of MBV featured on... and my god you can tell.

Kevin Shields has also found himself playing in indies own little super group Primal Scream for the last couple of years too.

It's been 13 years since their last album... how slack is that? but there have been rumours of a box set of all MBV recordings.... god I hope so. So if for some reason you've been stuck in a vacuum for the last 16 years bang these songs on then go and form a band and send me the results...
