Pardon My French Onions...

Booker T & The MG's - Green Onions (Live)

This storming wired live version of the classic Green Onions was recorded as part of a Stax Revue at the 4/5 Ballroom in Watts L.A. in 1965, just two weeks before the riots broke out, but was deemed inappropriate for release at the time so was shelved...

Thankfully somebody at the wonderful Stax label dug it out of the vaults and gave the album the release it deserved in 1992.

Also appearing on the bill were The Mar-Keys, The Mad Lads, Rufus Thomas, The Astors, William Bell and Carla Thomas, all captured in full on Stax style on the glorious Funky Broadway - A Stax Revue At The 4/5 Ballroom album.

Fuck - Fuck Motel

The first time I saw this bunch I'd never heard anything by them at all and kind of expected them to play really noisy, heavy, testosterone fuelled aggressive music....

But I was completely wrong as they turned out to play wonderfully crafted tunes with a slanted sense of fun that occasionally reminds me of Pavement.

Fuck Motel is taken from 1997's Pardon My French (indeed!) album released on the great Homestead Records label, I think Fuck are trying to outdo The Fall for the amount of labels they've been on... Millions of 'em.

If you ever get the chance to see them live I can highly recommend them...

you'll have a great night out... and they might even treat you to the "Fuck Cabaret And Magic Show"

Things To Do Today

Indie MP3 - Keeping c86 Alive - Drop into Tom's new blog and say hi... It does exactly what it says on the tin with great tunes from The Wedding Present, Cinerama and 14 Iced Bears amongst others.

I for one am going to be looking forward to seeing what else is coming up.

Radio KRUD - The lovely Megs (thanks for the mention in your Tofu Hut interview) and Glenn have a great blog with some great tunes, including Orbital's live version of the Doctor Who Theme, and lots of Mario Brothers based fun.

Windows RG (Really Good Edition) - Made me laugh out loud anyway.

Pleix Films - Excellent Animations and videos by Plaid, Futureshock and more... But mainly check out the E-Baby video.... It's sad but beautiful.
