Flaming Heart

M. Ward - Flaming Heart

Matt Ward first came to my attention via a Grandaddy connection...

Matt used to be in the band Rodriguez who's first album "Swing Like A Metronome" was produced by Jason Lytle (from thee afore mentioned groop Grandaddy), but since then he's struck out on his own, and has gained more success and acclaim as a solo artist than with the band, and he's also an occasional Giant Sand collaborator.

Sadly Matt has cancelled his UK dates due to illness, so I thought I'd post what is probably my favourite of his tracks.

This is from the great End of Amnesia album.

With large echoes of Jonathan Richman And The Modern Lovers, this track rolls along beautifully with hammered old time pub piano, shuffling drums and a lovely guitar line...

Love it.
