Doggy Style

Cursor Miner - Hair Of The Dog

Cursor Miner has it sussed. It’s a piece of piss really. There’s no complex electronic noodling in sight on third album ‘Danceflaw’ released last week on Lo Recordings. He’s gone right for the jugular with a series of meaty, beaty, big and bouncy tracks so überclean they sound like they were produced with the aid of a bottle of bleach and a scouring pad.

One of the magazine reviews of this album described it as “the perfect hangover cure”. I’m guessing this journalist is at least a decade younger than me, as I tend to go for lying in a darkened room with a cold compress on my head, a couple of Nurofen down the hatch and ‘Saturday Kitchen’ on low-volume, rather than pumping out a rousing album of up-tempo twisted electro to get me through. Diff’rent strokes, eh?

Back to business then – ‘Hair of the Dog’ (that doesn’t work for me anymore either) is a Great Dane of a tune; a slobbery, lorry chasing, eager-to-please, large-headed beast, rammed full of crispy breaks and tasty flanged basslines, manipulated into woofs and barks or how the adults sound to the kids in the ‘Charlie Brown’ cartoons. The rest of the album gallops down a similar path, and the Daft Punk pastiche album cover (a headshot of a dude wearing a helmet with a darkened visor) gives you a fair idea of which direction Cursor Miner is heading.
